Choosing The Right Cake Size & Tiers For Your Guest Count

One of the most frequent questions we receive during custom cake consultations is: 'How big should my cake actually be?'

Celebration cakes are portioned in two standard sizes: dessert portions (typically 1.5" x 2" x 4" slices served as the main sweet course) and party/coffee portions (1" x 1" x 4" slices common at buffets and cocktail receptions).

For intimate home gatherings of 8–12 guests, a single-tier 6-inch tall cake offers ample, elegant slices. For weddings of 60–80 guests, a 3-tier presentation (8" + 6" + 4" tiers) provides dramatic visual presence while guaranteeing every guest an indulgent cut.
